My Vision

Greetings Members, I am Peter Kelly and I am seeking your vote for Second Vice President of Local 2 for the 2021-24 term. I bring years of experience to the table and new ideas to take us into the future.

I have been a shop steward for almost my whole career at BC Ferries. I have served as the founding communications officer of our local under President Millie McWilliams. I have served on the locals’ resolution committee for four terms. I served as President of your local from 2015-2018.

I believe our first main challenge is to restore crew morale. We have to be us again. We need to take care of each other and look out for one another. To that end, I propose some ideas I believe will reinvigorate our local and draw out new activists to take us even further.

• We need to shine a spotlight on side deals and lesser known arrangements so that the contract might be fully understood with all it's quirky interpretations.
• We need to fight for wage and working condition improvements for better quality of life for all of our members.
• We need to refresh, renew, rebuild, train and mentor our shop stewards and teams.
• We need to challenge every possible contract violation by the employer and take it as far as our legal options go: it's one thing to lose a battle, it's another to refuse the fight.
• We need to continue to fight to gain CSD full protection of the main contents of the collective agreement.
• We need to renew our various committees and make them effective and relevant for today's needs.
• We need to make our local a fun place to be. A place that outside of work, we can act like the family that we are and be a voice in our community, standing up for human rights and fairness, for those with or without a union.

I stand ready to return to your local executive with new ideas and hope for the future. If you’ll have me.
