Let's do this!

 I'm happy to announce that I am seeking the office of Second Vice President, Local 2 (Nanaimo) for the BCFMWU in the 2021 union elections.

Most of you will know me from my previous term as local president, 2015-18 and we've crossed paths many times throughout our careers. I took last term off from union electoral politics to spend more time with family and now am ready to serve again.

My number one goal is to improve crew morale and increase participation at our level. We're already among the most active and engaged locals - given our higher than average vote turnouts but there is always room for improvement. See my plan, linked at the top of this site.

This next term should see covid19 exit our lives and not a moment too soon. We're under a new contract that expires in 2025 and we should ready ourselves to influence what our union demands of the employer when talks open up in 2024.

Between then and now, there will be opportunities for involvement to shape local and union policy. We have to be fun again and host events that bring out members and their families as it becomes safe to do so.

We must also cultivate and support a new generation of leaders rising in our ranks, while giving full homage to those who served before us and fought tough battles in their day.

I submit my name to your consideration as Second Vice President. If elected, I will not just lead, I will listen. I don't pretend to have all the answers nor am I perfect. I will put our collective well being at the centre of my thinking and continue to consult with you on the important challenges we face. 

This works if we all work together.
